Drop-in Mindfulness Meditation

Aug 29 - 6:30pm

Last outdoor mindfulness class of the season!

Let's return to where we began - Cowichan River near Skutz Falls!

Some missed the original meeting here, and have requested to return. As rivers are incredibly meaningful in Buddhist Psychology, it is very powerful to meditate at a river's edge.

PLEASE NOTE there are two locations that could pass as Skutz Falls - we will meet at the parking lot where Mayo Rd and Riverbottom Rd meet. Note there is no cell coverage at this spot, so please enter it in your google maps beforehand.  You will know you are at the correct spot if you see a large paved bridge near the parking area.  We will walk on this bridge to be able to look down at the river passing under us to begin our class.

Rain or shine!  (We will use the nearby Horseshoe Bend Campground covered pavilion if it's raining)

Please aim to arrive by 6:20pm as we will leave promptly at 6:30pm, walking a bit down the path to find a nice place to practice together.  If you like to sit on a towel or cushion, please bring one.  Sturdy shoes recommended as there are a few rolling hills.

See map above for June 13.  Email (sarah@enlivencounselling.com) or call me on 250-668-4847 if you have questions.

We will meet in the parking lot close to the park information and bathrooms.  There is a fun suspension bridge over the Koksilah River and many trails to explore.  There are also a few picnic shelters we can use in case of rain.  Please arrive a bit early for a prompt 6:30pm departure from the parking lot.

In these classes the aim is to connect with the wonders of the natural world that surround us here in the Cowichan Valley. Sarah will teach practices which facilitate the observation of the natural world through our senses and learn more about ourselves in so doing - a mirror being held up in which to see more clearly and deeply the essence of who we are.

Weaving of Buddhist philosophy with modern Western Psychology.

Meditating in this fashion in a group is powerful to enhance steadiness of attention, accountability and actually sitting in one spot to meditate for 20-30 minutes (often on our own we get restless and move after a shorter time).  Much research shows that we need social connection for our well-being, and this is one way to meet others interested in a path of examining the inner life.  Thus another aim of these drop-in classes is to build community and reduce isolation.

June 27 - 6:30pm
Cherry Point Beach

Meditating to the sounds and smells of the ocean in South Cowichan this time.  We will meet in the parking lot where the steps down to the beach begin.  Please arrive by 6:30pm as we will then walk to a spot to all sit together.  Bring whatever you'd like to sit on.  And a picnic snack or dinner for afterwards if you'd like to eat and chat after the one-hour of walking, meditating, and discussing is over.

One of my favourite places in the Cowichan Valley.

Let's meet at the Skutz Falls parking lot at the Cowichan River, where Mayo Rd and Riverbottom Rd meet.

Aug 1 - 6:30pm
Stoney Hill Bluffs in Genoa Bay

We will meet in the parking area on the newly paved Stoney Hill Road.

  • Take Maple Bay Road to Genoa Bay Road.

  • Take Genoa Bay Road for 5 km to Stoney Hill Road.

  • Go Left on Stoney Hill Road and follow for 1.3 km to trail head parking.

It is a 800m walk we will do together, in quiet meditation until we will get to the beautiful bluffs with views  to Salt Spring Island and Sansum Narrows.
